Enjoy St Patrick’s Day in London
St Patrick’s Day is always a fun event in London’s festival calendar. So come along and be part of it!
St Patrick is of course the patron saint of Ireland. And there’s traditionally been a big Irish community in London. So St Patrick’s Day celebrations are an annual highlight here, and Irish party spirit is guaranteed. Although the official date is 17th March, there are events all through the weekend. And of course all of this is sure to be matched with great food — and maybe a pint or two of Guinness. So here’s our selection for a great St Patrick’s Day.
Watch the parade
Well, this is London. Therefore no festival is complete without a parade. This year the parade takes place on Sunday 17th March. And if you like Irish music and dancing, you’ll find plenty to enjoy. You’ll also see floats and marching bands. It’s sure to be a vibrant event.
The parade starts at Green Park at midday. After that it goes down Piccadilly and finishes at Trafalgar Square. However, these events can be very popular, so get there in time to find a good spot.
Visit the festival
After watching the parade, why not stay in Trafalgar Square and enjoy the festival? In fact, you have all afternoon to stroll around and explore. As well as music and dancing on stage, you can tuck into the Irish food on offer at the street food stalls.
Join the music trail
On the other hand, head to cool, bustling Camden Market if you’re looking for something a bit different this weekend. Because this year, the market is hosting an ‘Irish Music Trail’. This features live music in different parts of the market. And of course, it’s not only music. You’ll also find food stalls selling Irish specialities. Or simply wander and enjoy the shops of Camden Market.
The music trail takes place on 16th March, and starts at 1 pm.
Catch up on some culture
If you’re a fan of culture, then the Irish Film Festival is for you. The Regent Street Cinema near Oxford Circus is hosting three days of Irish films. As well as short films, you’ll find animation and feature films. So check out their programme for some top quality viewing!
